The Temple is locally known as "Masir Bari" and the area as "Baro Asthal". However, it may soon collapse.Īll the deities of Raghunathbari has been shifted to a Pancharatna temple in the Gosain bazaar area of Chandrakona. The other side of the deul is still intact with some figures. As seen in the photograph, presently the "Jagamohan" is still standing, while one side of the Deul structure has collapsed. īurdwan King Tejchandra reconstructed this thakubari in 1831 as known from a foundation stone found here.Īmongst other temples there is the 'Saparatha' Shikhar Deul Temple of Deity Raghunatha along with a "Jagamohan" ( Porch) made of laterite stone. This is considered to be built by the Bhan Kings for their deity after their 1655 built Navaratna Temple at Lalgarh fort housing the deity collapsed. Locally people refer this complex as "Rajbari".

This area is named as Raghunathbari alias Raghunath Thakurbari. Out of them the most ancient and famous is an enclosure with several ruined temples located at a Mouja of Chandrakona named Ajoydha.

Once the residence of Bhan Kings, Chandrakona Town is now a rural town of Midnapore, West Bengal. I saw this mother and daughter busy with their work, ignorant of the historical place they were standing.
